ESAF Wins Inclusive Finance India Awards 2016

award_1ESAF Microfinance has won the Inclusive Finance India Awards 2016 (Large Organisation category) instituted by Access Assist to honor individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to the growth of microfinance sector. The award was given at the Inclusive Finance India Summit held at New Delhi on December 05, 2016.The Summit attracted over 1000 delegates from within and outside the country who are working on financial inclusion. K. Paul Thomas, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director and Mereena Paul Co-Founder and Head-HR, ESAF received the award. In his reply speech, K. Paul Thomas said that the award recognises the triple bottom line approach of the organisation where profit, people and planet is given equal importance. He also briefed the audience about the strategic efforts ESAF has made towards social inclusion.

ESAF Celebrates Gloria 2016

christmas‘Gloria 2016’, the Christmas celebration of ESAF was organized at Town Hall, Thrissur on December 19, 2016. More than 1000 people participated in the function. Dr. A. Kowsigan IAS, District Collector, Thrissur was the Chief Guest. Mar Yohannan Yoseph, Bishop, Church of the East delivered the Christmas message.  K. Paul Thomas, Chairman, ESAF Group presided over the function.  ESAF Choir rendered traditional and contemporary carols, which was followed by cultural programs performed by the staff from different entities of ESAF group. Jacob Samuel, Director - Programs and George Thomas, Executive Director, ESAF Microfinance spoke on the occasion. The function concluded with a sumptuous Christmas feast.

ESAF Launches CECDP Project in Partnership with FMO

cecdpBy partnering with FMO, ESAF has launched the Clean Energy Capacity Development Project (CECDP) on Dec 15, 2016. Sreejith, CECDP Advisor, Marketing and sales National, made a presentation on the overall achievement of the Green Lending Programme. K. V.Christudas, Head-CECDP, gave an overview of the project and Liji, Advisor CECDP (Impact assessment) gave a detailed presentation on the findings of the existing Green Lending activities of ESAF. Anand Nair, IT Advisor presented the draft plan of new MIS tool to capture the project progress. George Thomas, Executive Director, ESAF delivered the key note address.

ESAF Observes International Day of Person with Disabilities

pwdESAF observed the International Day of persons with disabilities on December 03, 2016 at  Nagpur and Wardha Area. Abhijit Raut, Social Welfare Department-NMC and Vinay Trikonwar, Skill Training Dept. NMC  were the Chief Guests  for the program held at ESAF Training Center, Mankapur, Nagpur. Sushil Kumar, State Head, MP inaugurated the programme and Amit Das, Sr. Manager, ESAF Co-operative presented the theme “17 Goals of Sustainable Development”.

ESAF Observes World Energy Conservation Day

ecdESAF observed World Energy Conservation day on December 14, 2016 at Galilee Hall, Pattikkad. The awareness program was inaugurated by K. Rajan, MLA, Ollur. During his speech, he emphasized on the importance and conservation of renewable energy. K. Paul Thomas, Founder & CMD, ESAF explained about various projects and programs being implemented by ESAF on Energy conservation.

The Energy Conservation rally at Amballur, Puthukad was flagged off by Ambili Soman, President, Kodakara Block Panchayath. P.J.Mathew, Asst. Manager, ESAF spoke on the occasion. K.V.Christudas, Head, Environment and Livelihood, ESAF led the awareness classes at both places. More than 550 SHG members participated in the program. ESAF sponsored solar lamps to the students of Pattikkad Government school who don’t have electricity at homes. Different kinds of solar products were introduced and live product repair section were also arranged to help the sangam members. George Thomas, Executive Director, Jijo Kuriyappan, State-Head, ESAF, Ashok George, CEO, ESAF Retail, Sandhya Suresh, Sr.Manager, Rosily, Area Manager, ESAF and Aji P.J., Ward Member, Pattikkad spoke on the occasion.

The Energy conservation rally was flagged off after the completion of the awareness program led by K. Paul Thomas, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, ESAF Microfinance. The rally started from Galilee Auditorium and ended at Pattikkad junction. More than 100 people participated in the rally including ESAF staff and SHG members. The participants used the placards with energy conservation slogans.

ESAF organizes Financial Inclusion Seminar

kpt_finslusionESAF Microfinance partnered with Center for Financial Inclusion, ACCION, to observe Financial Inclusion Week from October 17th to October 21st 2016. The Financial Inclusion Week was observed with the purpose of spreading the essence of financial inclusion, which allows accessing a full suite of quality financial services, at affordable prices, in a convenient manner, with respect and dignity. A seminar was organised on financial inclusion on the topic Financial Inclusion: How far have we reached? A Kerala perspective at Hotel Ashoka Inn, Thrissur. Major stakeholders related to financial inclusion were invited for the panel discussion, which was attended by 150 participants from universities, banks, MFIs and ESAF clients. The client testimonials gave a brief account of the transformation they have undergone after the microfinance support.
K. Paul Thomas, Founder & Chairman, ESAF Group inaugurated the program and spoke on the need to reach out to the last mile customer, who can effectively use the financial products and services. Deepa Pillai, District Development Officer, NABARD, Joshi Paul Veliyath, Managing Director, KSFE, N. Jayakumaran Nair, General Manager, TDCB Bank, Dr. Binoy Peter, Executive Director, Migration Inclusive Development, R.R. Kanakambaran District Head, Lead Bank, Suresh Gurumani, Project Head, ESAF, Jacob Samuel, Director, Programmes, Sandhya Suresh, Senior Manager, ESAF and Jayarajan V.K., PRO, ESAF Co-operative spoke on this occasion. An interface was coordinated by the SPM department between the staff from different departments in the Head Office and ESAF Microfinance clients. The intention was to let the staff understand the need and concerns of the clients to serve them better.

P Ubaidulla, MLA, Malappuram, inaugurated the event. K. Padmakumar, Chief Financial Officer, ESAF, Rouf Varikkodan, Organising Committee President, C.H. Jameela Teacher, Municipal Chairperson, Malappuram, Manju George, Sr. Programme Manager, ESAF, Kurikesh Mathew, MSP Deputy Commandant, Haris Aamiya, Municipal Councilor and Labeeba Thayyil, Project Co-ordinator, ESAF spoke on the occasion. From Collector bungalow to PWD Rest House, at Perinthalmanna road, cultural competitions like mappila song, mehandi, drawing, hockey, cookery show, magic show, tug of war, flash mob, street play, chess, caroms, football etc took place.

ESAF observes Gandhi Jayanthi

gandhijayanthiAs part of Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, ESAF Co-operative participated in Swachh Bharat Mission at Malappuram. Kurikesh Mathew, MSP Deputy Commandant, inaugurated the cleanliness campaign at Perinthalmanna Road, Malappuram on October 02, 2016. ESAF team actively participated in removing all sorts of garbage, bushes and other unhygienic materials from the highway side.

ESAF also organised cleaning programs at ESAF Hospital and Research Centre, Thachampara. Nearly 130 people including staff & students participated in the programme. The function was inaugurated by Eby M.P, Sub Inspector of Police, Kalladikkode. Ajeesh K. Thomas, Administrator, ESAF Hospital, Bala Subramanian, Head-Operations, ESAF Co-operative, and Rajesh Sreedharan Pillai, Head-Finance spoke on the occasion. Students & staff cleaned the entire surroundings of Hospital premises, and painted the damaged furniture and walls. Biju George, Chief Operating Officer, proposed a vote of thanks.

ESAF Organizes Subhayathra Traffic Awareness Program

subayathraESAF joined hands with Thrissur City Police to organize 'Subhayathra' Traffic awareness program. The program was conducted at Thermadom auditorium, Pattikkad, Thrissur on Oct 04, 2016. M. K. Gopalakrishnan, ACP, Admin, inaugurated the function. George Thomas, Executive Director, ESAF Microfinance was the Chief Guest. E. Babu, Sub Inspector of Police, Peechi, T. Manoj, ASI, Peechi, T. Sasi, Sr. CPO, and P.S. Sunil Kumar spoke on the occasion. The participants included drivers and student police cadets. ESAF sponsored 250 first aid kits and bags for all the drivers who participated in the function.

ESAF Observes World Car Free Day

cfdESAF observed World Car-free Day for the third time at Ramanilayam Road, order Thrissur on September 21 and for the first time in Kochi at Panampilly Nagar on Sep 25, 2016. The programs were organised in partnership with Livable Cities Network, NATPAC (National Transportation Planning & Research Centre), Kerala State Pollution Control Board and HealthBridge Foundation. The Cochin Corporation, Kochi Metro, Rajagiri college of Social Sciences and Cochin Shipyard also supported the program in Kochi.
Ajitha Jayarajan, Hon. Mayor, Thrissur, inaugurated the event at Thrissur and K. Paul Thomas, Chairman, ESAF Group presided over the function. In Kochi, Soumini Jain, Hon. Mayor, Kochi, inaugurated the event and Jacob Samuel, Director-Programmes, ESAF presided over the function. Neeraj Madhav, Cine Artist was the Chief Guest.
Thousands of people across all ages flocked into both the events and made it a grand success. World Car-free Day is observed all over the globe on September 22, to promote walking, cycling and usage of public transport instead of private motor vehicles. The programme also aims at sensitising people about the importance of protecting environment and constructing cities friendly towards kids, old-aged people, women and differently-abled.

Muhammed Haris, Artist were the Chief Judges for the contest.

ESAF Organizes Vanitha Fest “Onolsav-2016”

onotsavamAs part of Onamcelebrations, drug ESAF conducted a Mega Vanitha Fest- “ESAF Onolsav2016” from September 01 –06, 2016, at Town Hall, Thrissur. Handicraft items, food items, organic vegetables, candles, other hand made products made by ESAF sangam members were arranged for exhibition cum sale. Smt. Sheela Vijayakumar, District Panchayat President, Thrissur, inaugurated the function and Sri. Varghese Kandamkulathy, Deputy Mayor, Corporation,Thrissur presided over the function.
Special programs were organized as part of the event, which included seminars, short films, free medical check-ups, honouringof MLAs and cultural programs of sangam members and their children. Other notable events included Chakiar Koothu by Kalamandalam Anoop, Ganamela by Sri.Pradeep Somasundaram & Team and Theater Skech by Sri. Sanju Madhav& Team.

ESAF enters into partnership with UN Habitat

urban_logoESAF has entered into an agreement with UN Habitat to function as an associate partner for their project ‘World Urban Campaign - The City We Need’. ESAF was selected based on the urban solutions suggested under the ‘Livable Cities project’. Some of them were ‘Active and Safe Route to School Program - A way to the future, view now is the chance’ and ‘Community engagement as a way of advocacy to reclaim under-utilised spaces’.
The World Urban Campaign (WUC) is an advocacy and partnership platform coordinated by UN-Habitat to raise awareness about positive urban changes in order to achieve the dream of green, productive, safe, healthy, inclusive and well-planned cities.
