ESAF participates in Asia Conference on Fair Trade

ESAF participated in ‘Asia Conference on Building Consumer Confidence in Fair Trade’ on October 10, 2012. K. Paul Thomas, Managing Director, ESAF Microfinance chaired the session ‘Ethical Finance and Fair Trade’. S. Srinivas, General Manager, EXIM Bank was the keynote speaker in the session. K. Paul Thomas, during his speech explained the ESAF model where microfinance was supported by capacity building of tiny entrepreneurs. He also applauded EXIM Bank’s support to Fair Trade Movement and dwelt at length on the Skill Development Programs organized by ESAF for the artisans in Kerala and Jharkhand.  Srinivas explained the schemes EXIM bank offered for small producer organizations to carry on with their operations. More than 220 delegates from all over the globe participated in the conference.

ESAF Observes International Walk to School Day

As part of International Walk to School Day, ESAF organized a walk to school at St. George School, Mukkattukkara, on October 03, 2012. ‘Livable Cities’ project team of ESAF organized the event. “Livable cities project has been successfully implemented in Bangalore and Nagpur and the team is expecting a similar result in Thrissur” says K. Paul Thomas, Managing Director, ESAF Microfinance.  

Started from Ollukkara, the program was flagged off by M.L. Rosy, Standing Committee Chairperson, Public Works Department, Thrissur. Jacob Samuel, Social Advisor, ESAF Microfinance, Sreedharan Nair, Project Director, M.C. Biju, Police Representative, Shino Davis, Project Officer and Jinu Varghese, Project Co-ordinator    spoke on the occasion. Walk to school day is observed internationally to remind and encourage the modern generation to adopt healthy living practices.

IInd Case Study Competition winners

Thrissur region with 145 responses registered the maximum responses for the case study contest held last year. In total 178 entries have been received for the contest. Laiju E.K, Documentation Officer, R&D department won the first prize,  Seetha Lakshmi from Thrikkunapuzha branch won the second prize and Nisha S. Sardar from Nagpur won the third prize. The following employees won the consolation prizes – Joicy Anto, Amballoor branch, Thrissur, Sandhya Suresh, Manger- R&D, Rema Mohandas, Pattikkad branch, Thrissur, Sujatha M.K, and Krishaveni K., Palakkad branch.

ESAF sponsors newspapers to police stations

As part of meeting its social commitments, ESAF has agreed to associate with Kerala Kaumadi daily to sponsor newspapers to selected police stations in the districts of Thrissur and Palakkad. In a program organized at Crime Branch Office, Thrissur, K. Paul Thomas, Managing Director ESAF Microfinance handed over a copy of the newspaper to P.N. Unnirajan, SP, Crime Branch, Thrissur. K.N. Suresh Kumar, Unit Chief, Kerala kaumadi, Thrissur explained about the project.  C.G. Sunil Kumar, Bureau Chief, Kerala Kaumadi and K.A. Elizabeth, Circle Inspector, Women’s Cell also spoke on the occasion.

ESAF participates in TiECon

ESAF participated in TiECon Kerala 2012, a two day conference of entrepreneurs, investors and mentors, organized by The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) at Le Meridien Convention Centre, Kochi. K. Paul Thomas, Managing Director, ESAF Microfinance, Mereena Paul, Chief HR and Chairperson, Grievance Redressal Forum, George Thomas, Director Operations and Joby C.O. , CFO represented the Organization in the conference.

ESAF builds home for an ailing employee

As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations, ESAF with the support of its employees built a house for Radhamani, a former field staff at Elappara branch in Idukki. Radhamani was ailing from a serious brain related disease for some years. K. Paul Thomas, Managing Director, ESAF Microfinance handed over the keys of the new house to Radhamani and family on Oct 13, 2012. Radhamani then expressed her deep gratitude to ESAF and staff

ESAF Sponsors Mathrubhumi Madhuram Malayalam

In order to encourage the reading habits among rural children, ESAF has agreed to partner with Mathrubhumi daily to promote their Madhuram Malayalam scheme in selected schools in Idukki district. In a program organized at Vazhathope St. George UP School, Father Abraham Purayattu, presided over the function. Dettus M. Thomas, Area Manager, ESAF Microfinance, Idukki, Inaugurated the program by handing over the newspaper to the school leader.  Joy Varghese, Panchayath President, Vazhathope delivered the keynote address. In a program held at Churuli High School, Shivan Kozhikamalil, Chairman, School Management Committee presided over the function.

ESAF participates in Alappuzha International meet

ESAF participated in the first chapter of Alappuzha International Meet (AIM) held at Town Square, Alappuzha. The program was organized by Kerala Development Media & Gandhi Smaraka Grama Sevak Kendra. The meet was aimed at showcasing the possibilities of fair trade and exhibiting potential sectors in Alappuzha.  Christudas K.V., General Manager, Micro Energy Credits, represented ESAF in the function.
